Product Features

Many of Power Innovations’ tested and proven innovative technologies and applications are implemented into the Q-MS™ Series – Mid-Scale Uninterruptible Power Quality™ (UPQ™) systems. Q-MS 8 completely eliminates concerns by isolating, filtering, and regulating impure and erratic input power and producing a reliable, consistent, pure, sine wave output using high frequency power generation.

The Q-MS 8 provides five (5) stages of isolation and conversion. In comparison, traditional UPS online systems provide only double conversion. Advanced stages of isolation allow Q-MS systems to accept a wide range of input power variation (up to double that of traditional UPS systems). The Q-MS 8 uses special input components that can handle extreme high voltage and high current conditions.

Configurations:

  • Q-MS - Standard configuration
  • Q-MS-RS (Rack System) - Space-saving rack-mount configuration
  • Q-MS 400 Hz Static Inverter

Features:

High Resolution Sine Wave Output

The Q-MS 8 assures perfect power to connected equipment. The systems isolate, filter, and regulate impure and erratic input power to provide a pure and consistent sine wave output.

True Galvanic Isolation

The Q-MS 8 incorporates true galvanic isolation on the output, which isolates the AC output under every mode of operation. The Q-MS 8 can accept a different ground between input and output, thus stopping any current leakage through the ground. True galvanic isolation reduces common mode noise that is normally transferred to the output from the AC power input source.

EMI Suppression

The Q-MS 8 provides EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) filtering. EMI filtering eliminates noise that could interfere with the equipment attached to the UPQ system. The Q-MS Series meets all international EMC requirements.

Branch Circuit Input Protection

The Q-MS 8 has an independent branch circuit for each input loop. In the event that a breaker trips or a short circuit condition occurs on one of the input loops, the other input loops will continue to function normally, avoiding a total system shutdown.

Cold Start Function

The Q-MS 8 can be started independent of an AC power source by using its batteries. Special current-limiting circuitry protects the Q-MS from high inrush currents associated with DC battery connections on a dry DC bus. Ordinary on-line UPS solutions can suffer damage to battery fuses and DC capacitors when batteries are connected to an empty DC bus for cold start applications.

Phase Control Technology

The Q-MS 8 utilizes phase control technology to regulate the DC bus voltage. This feature provides efficient and direct battery charging.

Harsh Environment Tolerance

Each components used in the Q-MS 8 has been selected for exceptional durability and safety. The Q-MS 8 can run efficiently in extreme environments: temperature, humidity, altitude, shock, and contamination.

Dual Output Capabilities

The Q-MS 8 can be configured with a single 120V or 220V output, or with dual 120/220V output modules, that can be used simultaneously. This unique feature allows flexibility for the system to be used in a wide range of applications.

Expandable Backup Time

Q-MS 8 system batteries provide five (5) minutes of backup time at full load. Backup time is expandable with additional battery modules.

Advanced Protection

The Q-MS Series incorporates technologies that preserve the life of the system and connected equipment. Advanced features include:

·         Overload bypass

·         Short-circuit protection

·         Over temperature shutdown

High Frequency Design

The Q-MS 8 is designed to use a high frequency, highly efficient IGBT/PWM in converting DC power to AC power. This design reduces the total number of system components and makes and Q-MS lighter, smaller, more reliable and efficient.

UPQsoft™

UPQsoft is Power Innovations' smart UPQ local montoring and control software for the Windows, NetWare, or UNIX/Linux environment. This software provides a real-time view of the Q-MS system status within a standalone or networked environment. Displayed in a variety of graphical and table forms, the data gives administrators access to UPQ system activity and a comprehensive history of power-related events (see UPQsoft).

Options to be purchased with this series:

UPQnet-agent III™

The Q-MS can be remotely monitored and managed using a UPQnet-agent III. The UPQ net-agent III provides a comprehensive, easy-to-understand, secure Web-base interface to monitor and control any UPQ system- via a network, an IP address or dial-up connection. This web page provides vital information from the Q-MS that is available both locally and remotely, and may be accessed via computer, cell phone, PDA or other electronic devices with internet connections. The UPQnet-agent III also sends TRAP and email notifications regarding system status when user-set parameters are acheived (see UPQnet-agent III).
