The Q-LS™ Series – Large-Scale Uninterruptible Power Quality™ (UPQ™) system is the Power Innovations flagship product line that combines all the features and flexibility of UPQ technology. This family of products is next generation technology for today’s marketplace. The Q-LS design reduces the total number of system components, and makes the Q-LS lighter, smaller, more reliable and efficient. Power Innovations tested and proven Uninterruptible Power Quality technology is incorporated in the Q-LS Series. This family of products provides next generation technology for today’s sensitive electronic equipment.
The Q-LS provides five (5) stages of isolation and conversion. In comparison, traditional UPS online systems provide only double conversion. Advanced stages of isolation allow Q-LS systems to accept a wide range of input power variation (up to double that of traditional UPS systems).
The Q-LS Series can have to following outputs:
- Q-LS Series 3 Phase Input (6 Pulse) / Single & Three Phase Output 50/60 Hz
- Q-LS Series 3 Phase Input (12 Pulse) / Single & Three Phase Output 50/60 Hz
- Q-LS Series 3 Phase Input / Single & Three Phase Output 400 Hz
Features
High Resolution Sine Wave Output
The Q-LS assures perfect power to connected equipment. The systems isolate, filter, and regulate impure and erratic input power to provide a pure and consistent sine wave output.
Branch Circuit Input Protection
The Q-LS has an independent branch circuit for each input loop. In the event that a breaker trips or a short circuit condition occurs on one of the input loops, the other input loops will continue to function normally, avoiding a total system shutdown.
True Galvanic Isolation
The Q-LS incorporates true galvanic isolation on the output, which isolates the AC output under every mode of operation. The Q-LS can accept a different ground between input and output, thus stopping any current leakage through the ground. True galvanic isolation reduces the common mode noise that is normally transferred to the output from the AC power input source.
EMI Suppression
The Q-LS provides EMI (Electro-magnetic Interference) filtering. EMI filtering eliminates noise that could interfere with the equipment attached to the UPQ system as well as surrounding equipment. The Q-LS Series meets all international EMC (Electro-magnetic compatibility) requirements.
Self-diagnosing, Plug-and-Play Modular Design
For ease in troubleshooting, all critical components in the Q-LS system self-diagnose. Plug-and-play modules of high-stress, high-voltage switching electronics make serviceability virtually effortless. Circuit trays can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Tray components can be serviced and put back into use while the system is running.
Eliminate Step-up / Step-down Transformers
UPQ technology:
· Offers multiple voltage options. Input voltages can be different from output voltages.
· Eliminates the need for independent input / output step-down or step-up transformers.
· Input: Provides international compatibility for global applications.
· Output: Allows for multiple and simultaneous output voltages.
Customizations
· Variable input & output power configurations (60 Hz, 50 Hz, 400 Hz)
· Single and three phase configurations
· Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
· Inline voltage and frequency converters
· Twelve-pulse rectifier available in 10-60 kVA (standard in larger systems)
· Parallel and serial emergency power OFF (EPO)
Harsh Environment Tolerance
Each component used in the Q-LS Series has been selected for exceptional durability and safety. The Q-LS Series can run efficiently in extreme environments: temperature, humidity, altitude, shock and contamination.
Multi-CPU Design
The Q-LS provides redundancy of all critical functions by utilizing several CPUs on the control board. If one of the CPUs fails, the other CPUs will continue to operate so that output power is not affected.
Hot Swappable Battery Modules
In order to minimize system downtime, battery modules can be swapped and serviced while the system is running.
Intelligent Battery Charger
The Q-LS Series battery charger features user-selectable charging levels (Low/Med/Hi), depending on the Ah of the battery. The Q-LS system will automatically boost the charge to the battery as needed. This boost charge allows the batteries to charge at a quicker rate and keeps them in their best condition. To avoid over charging the battery, the boost charge will stop when the ambient temperature is over 35°C (95°F).
Automatic Battery Test
The Q-LS will automatically test the batteries after every boost charge. This test is initiated by a battery discharge or after one month has elapsed since the last test. The Q-LS system will notify the user of battery condition and will indicate when any of the batteries need to be replaced. This feature allows the batteries to be replaced before they fail.
Phase Control Technology
The Q-LS utilize phase control technology to regulate the DC bus voltage. This feature provides efficient and direct battery charging.
Cold Start Function
The Q-LS can be started independent of an AC power source by using its batteries. Special current-limiting circuitry protects the Q-LS Series from high inrush currents associated with DC battery connections on a dry DC bus. Ordinary on-line UPS solutions will suffer damage to battery fuses and DC capacitors when batteries are connected to an empty DC bus for cold start applications.

UPQsoft™
UPQsoft is Power Innovations' smart UPQ local montoring and control software for the Windows, NetWare, or UNIX/Linux environment. This software provides a real-time view of the Q-LS system status within a standalone or networked environment. Displayed in a variety of graphical and table forms, the data gives administrators access to UPQ system activity and a comprehensive history of power-related events (see UPQsoft).
Options to be purchased with this series:
Q-LS External Battery Modules
The Q-LS Battery Module enables the user to select how much backup time is necessary for a specific application. The external battery cabinets are designed to match the Q-LS series in both size and appearance, allowing for a uniform appearance when the Q-LS units and Q-LS battery cabinets are placed together (see Q-LS Series Batteries)
UPQnet-agent III™
The Q-RX Series can be remotely monitored and managed using a UPQnet-agent III. The UPQ net-agent III provides a comprehensive, easy-to-understand, secure Web-base interface to monitor and control any UPQ system- via a network, an IP address or dial-up connection. This web page provides vital information from the Q-Series that is available both locally and remotely, and may be accessed via computer, cell phone, PDA or other electronic devices with internet connections. The UPQnet-agent III also sends TRAP and email notifications regarding system status when user-set parameters are acheived (see UPQnet-agent III).
MatrixEMM™
The MatrixEMM™ (energy monitoring and management) is Power Innovations’ answer to the age old problem of monitoring and managing the status of individual batteries, for the Q-LS Series only. This system enables a user to easily gather information on a series or on individual batteries. With the information gathered, problems can be anticipated and corrected quickly. (see Matrix EMM).
