Power Management with the UPQnet-agent III™

The Power Innovations UPQnet-agent III provides a line of communication between the system and the user. Using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), the UPQnet-agent III provides real-time power statistics and remote/local control of any connected UPQ™ (Uninterruptible Power Quality™) unit. Access is available from within a network or via an Internet-connection, direct dial-up, or other portable handheld device, such as PDAs and/or cell phones.

Full Remote and Local System Management

The UPQnet-agent III uses SNMP to communicate with the UPQ. This universal protocol allows for Internet access of real-time status and history reports and provides remote control of connected UPQs. This secure webpage includes various screens that display UPQ information, current status (also displayed in graphical format), and remote control capabilities.

Normal connectivity is established via a standard 10/100 Ethernet interface. However, the UPQnet-agent III can also communicate with outside equipment via traditional telephone lines through an optional modem. If direct telephone connections and/or Internet connections are not available, cellular modems, and satellite interfaces allow connectivity.

Features

Information Screen

The information screen displays:

·         UPQ manufacturer

·         Firmware version

·         Equipment model

·         Voltage rating

·         Frequency rating

·         Most recent battery replacement due

·         Most recent self-test date

·         Date of next scheduled self-test

Current Status

The Current Status screen updates at user pre-set intervals. This screen displays:

·         Input/output line voltage

·         UPQ load

·         Temperature

·         Battery status (capacity and voltage)

·         AC status

·         Remaining back-up time on battery

Meter / Chart Screen

The Meter/Chart screen displays similar information to the Current Status screen, but in graphical format. This screen updates at user pre-set intervals, and displays:

·         Input line frequency voltage

·         Load statistics

·         Input/output voltage

·         Battery capacity

Remote Control

The Remote Control screen allows for remote control of any connected UPQ system. This screen facilitates the following remote functions:

·         Unit self-test

·         System shutdown on AC failure

·         Initiate UPQ sleep-mode

·         Disengage UPQ sleep-mode

·         Reboot UPQ

·         Disengage UPQ audible alarm

Event and Data Log

The Event and Data Log records and stores performance-related data regarding any connected UPQ and its environment (optional) over a period of time. These records may be exported to Microsoft Excel format and saved to a computer hard drive. Event and Data Log information includes:

·         Detailed event description and record (including date/time)

·         Input/output voltage

·         Frequency (Hz)

·         Load status/load capacity

·         Battery status/battery capacity

·         Operating temperature

NMS Supported

Built-in SNMP capabilities incorporate compliant Network Management Systems (NMS), allowing for seamless integration with popular network management tools such as HP OpenView, Microsoft SMS, SUN SunNet Manager, IBM NetView, Novell NMS, Accton AccView, and other SNMP-compliant NMS systems.

System Requirements

For optimal operation, the UPQnet-agent III requires a:

·         Connected UPQ system

·         Windows-compliant PC (required for initial configuration)

·         Network connection

Hardware Specifications

UPQnet-agent III hardware specifications include:

·         CPU: ARM 32bit RISC-based processor 33 MHz

·         RAM: 4 MB

·         Flash ROM: 1 MB

·         LAN Interface: UTP 10/100M Fast Ethernet, auto-sensing

·         Protocol: TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP, Telnet, SNTP, PPP, HTTP

·         Power Supply: 7.5 – 9V

Configurations

The UPQnet-agent III comes in two (2) configurations: an internal card and an external module. The internal card is designed for direct installation into the UPQ. The external modules interfaces the UPQ with other IT and non-IT devices via RS232 connectivity.

UPQnet-agent III Features

·         Web-based access for easy monitoring and control of power systems

·         Auto-sensing, 10 base-T/100M fast Ethernet for easy setup and operation

·         Sends TRAP and email event notifications

·         Easy setup and upgradeability via MS-Windows

·         Environmental monitoring capability via UPQnet-agent III e-Alert Sensor™ (optional)

·         Modem dial-in / dial-out capabilities (optional)

Environmental Management Option

The UPQnet-agent III incorporates optional environmental monitoring capabilities using the UPQnet-agent III e-Alert Sensor. The e-Alert Sensor facilitates user supervision of the UPQ environment including ambient temperature, relative humidity, smoke detection, water accumulation, and parameter security. The e-Alert Sensor is designed to work in conjunction with the UPQnet-agent and UPQ to provide the ability to remotely monitor the system environment.
